MACO: over 70 years of innovation, work, and Made in Italy quality

1955

The Birth of MACO

MACO was founded in 1955, in the post-war period, by Carlo Mauri and Virgilio Confalonieri, long-time friends and both from Seregno. Drawing on their previous experience as employees in local companies, they decided to leverage their professional skills to start their own business. The choice of Seregno was strategic: the municipality was located near a rapidly expanding district with a predominant production in the furniture sector. In just 30 square meters, the two partners began the artisanal production of small metal parts for local furniture industries. The initial production structure was essential: a small punching machine and, later, an ancient belt-driven lathe.

1958

First Successes

In 1958, three years after its founding, MACO‘s business was growing strongly and the company already employed four people. In the following years, the progressive development of the sector allowed the company to be structured in a more organized and efficient way. In 1960, the first sales agents were hired to explore opportunities outside the Brianza area. In 1961, the patent for the first pivot hinge, entirely designed and produced in-house, was filed. Commercial success led to the need for larger spaces, and the headquarters moved to a 450-square-meter warehouse equipped with modern machinery to increase production with new lines. By the mid-1960s, MACO was participating in the main national trade fairs, had 12 employees, and introduced a department dedicated to plastic injection molding.

1968

Growth and Innovation

In 1968, the company moved to a 2,000 square meter warehouse, built on a 6,500 square meter area and equipped with cutting-edge production systems. Despite the international economic crisis, between 1973 and 1974 MACO invested in innovative technological processes and automated several production lines. With a workforce of 20 employees, the company began exporting to Europe, with agents operating in the French and Spanish markets. In 1980, it developed the first prototype of a magnetic snap ratchet with an innovative cam mechanism: a true turning point in the design of mechanical components. In 1982, it built an office building and a 1,000 square meter warehouse for the storage of raw materials and semi-finished products.

1983

The Second Generation

In 1983, the founders’ sons joined the company: Angelo Mauri, for the administrative-commercial area, and Roberto Confalonieri, who handled technical and production aspects. Driven by this new energy, the company participated in international trade fairs and consolidated relationships with foreign clients. At the beginning of the 1990s, with a staff of 30 employees and constantly growing demand, MACO entrusted part of the production and assembly to third parties, ensuring production capacity without compromising quality. In 2002, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Handicrafts awarded MACO the gold medal for its long and solid activity in the sector.

2005

The New Headquarters and the Third Generation

In 2005, MACO moved to its modern headquarters in via Macallè: over 10,000 square meters, 6,000 of which are covered. This space is dedicated not only to production and marketing but also to product design and the development of customized solutions for clients. In 2010, the first recessed snap ratchet was developed and perfected. 2020 marked the entry of the third generation into the company, with Alessandro, Omar, and Edoardo. This confirms a trend of constant growth and the continuation of a journey that began 65 years earlier.

2022

Energy Transition and Technological Innovation

2022 was the year of the green turning point, with the installation of 500 photovoltaic panels for energy production and self-consumption. In 2023, MACO installed its first 4.0 assembly line, which is fully automated, followed by the first semi-automatic packaging machine. Investments in robotics and technology have increased production without reducing the workforce, which in 2025 numbers 30 employees.

2026
